A Better God

A Better God

“What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near to us whenever we pray to him?”

Deuteronomy 4:7

Have you considered the fact that the God of the Bible–the one, true God is better than any other god? Obviously, it’s not hard to be better when you are the only. It’s like when my grandmother used to tell me I was her favorite granddaughter. Duh! I’m your ONLY granddaughter!

But, I think we take for granted just how truly good God is. Think about it…not everyone worships the one, true God. Some people choose lesser gods (which are false and don’t actually exist but that’s not the point here.) And the gods others worship aren’t near. Their presence becomes confined to an alter or a statue.

How are you to cry out to a statue that sits inside a temple or an alter within your house while you are sitting in traffic or lying in a hospital bed? It is quite inconvenient.

Not our God. Our God is near and ever present.

Yet, how many of us take for granted the ever-present character of God?

Do we tap into the benefit of having God near as we go about our day-to-day life?

I am often guilty (you maybe too) of seeking to do life independently as if our God–the ever-present God–is stuck in a church building or at home next to our Bible.

That’s dumb.

Colossians 4:2 says “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

NIV

Is your life characterized with a devotion to prayer–a constant communication with your always-with-you God?

My husband, Jared, has been doing a sermon series on prayer which has proven to be a beautiful reminder of just how completely we were made for constant communication with God but how slow we are to engage in what makes our souls complete.

We are quick to seek answers and solutions on our own while God longs for us to run headlong to Him with our need.

Would you join me in committing to growing in a continual conversation with God?

I want to lean into God–counting on Him for guidance and help. Recognizing that it is my need for help that links me to an awareness of His presence. I long to be quick in my cry for help or declaration of gratitude.

How would your life look different if you functioned in a posture of acknowledging God’s continual presence in your life?

Share with me what changes in your daily life have helped you connect with God in continual way. How do you make communication with God more automatic?
