In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus dedicated an entire section to characterizing those who were blessed. This section is referred to as “The Beatitudes.” Join me in this 6-week study of what defines a “beatitude” and how they position believers to receive freedom and hope.

This is it! And I’m going out with a bang! Ever wonder what it’s like when the doorbell rings while I’m videoing?!? Find out at the end of the first video this week. To be honest, I was at the very, very end of recording and I just couldn’t bring myself to recording it all over. So, you get to see what it’s really like to be interrupted!
It has been such a treat to study a passage of Scripture with such rich application. I’ve been stretched and challenged to submit myself to God’s authority recognizing it is through the power of His Spirit that I am transformed and He receives the most glory.
Thank you for learning alongside me! I would love your input and suggestions for future studies.
In a little 6-week study, week 5 got here before I was ready! Week 5 should mean we’re winding down but instead it means we’re ramping up! Up until this week, we’ve covered one beatitude per week. That’s all well and good until you realize their are eight beatitudes and this is a 6 week study!
Starting this week, we will cover two beatitudes per week. Week 5 and 6 will feel like we put it in overdrive.
To be honest, I was a bit worn out after trying to stuff so much into a couple of short videos. However, my hope is for you to allow God to speak to your heart in the time of reflection as well as our video lesson.
This week we’re going to study the blessedness of those who hunger and thirst after righteousness. I love this one. God has brought me a long way in my personal journey as I’ve learned what it means to embrace and depend on His righteousness over my own.
When we learn to exchange our misguided standard of righteousness for a God-produced righteousness, we find we long for more and more of God Himself. My prayer for you is for God to continue to move and work in your life through His transforming power.
I am over the moon with the study of the Be-atitudes. God is opening my eyes to truths from His word which are proving to be convicting and transforming. I want to experience God’s perfect plan for happiness and I know that won’t happen in my current state. It happens as I allow God to change me from the inside out.
This week’s lesson is on meekness and wow, oh wow…this one got me. Meek–not a adjective I use to describe myself if I’m completely honest. Yet, I remember meeting a woman in my early twenties who I could describe only as “gentle.” She was a pastor’s wife and a chaplain for the company where I worked. I realized at the time, I wanted to be like her! What a worthy venture but a misguided plan. Only as I’ve sought after God has my heart begun to take on traits of meekness. There is still a LOOOOONG way to go but thank God for grace.
I can’t wait to hear how God speaks to your heart. Would you share with me in the comments how God is moving and shaping you?
In our previous lesson, we finished by studying the blessing received by those who recognized their destitute state apart from Jesus. The first beatitude is foundational for the rest of the beatitudes we will study over the coming weeks.
In this week’s lessons, we will consider what it means to mourn and why Jesus would consider a state a grief a declaration for blessing.
As you work through the lessons, really seek God’s presence. Let Him in the dark areas you don’t want anyone to see. Trust me, something special happens as we begin to give even the hardest areas of our life over to Jesus. He’s trustworthy with and is in the heart-changing business.
Remember to check out the discussion questions in the comments. It is a great way to connect with others who are studying alongside you and experiencing God’s movement in their own lives.
As we begin a new study, please realize it will take some time and adjustment to figure out how and when you will add this study into your life. Choosing to study God’s Word takes intentionally. It is making one choice to choose Jesus and then making the next choice. It is a series of choices that lead to a rhythm and lifestyle of seeking after God.
If you get behind, don’t worry. These lessons aren’t going anywhere!! This Bible study is designed to be flexible for your schedule. If you get behind, you can catch up! I would encourage you, however, to not rush. Rushing through lessons doesn’t do much for heart transformation. Give God the time to allow His truth to saturate your heart.
So, here we go! Week 1: If you’ve done a study with me in the past, this one will be a little different. I’ll tell you more about it in the first video. Note there are 2 videos! Sit back, enjoy, and let God speak to your heart.
